In Mississippi:

  • 50% of potentially toxic exposures involve pharmaceutical products.  These include a combination of children getting into a family member’s medications, drug overdoses, adverse drug reactions and drug allergies. 

  • Twenty-two percent of exposure cases involved household products, including cleaning products, drain cleaners and other household chemicals. 

  • Pesticides and industrial chemicals each accounted for about six percent of exposures. 

  • Bites from snakes and spiders and insect stings accounted for 3.3 percent of exposure cases.
